{"id":933,"date":"2023-02-08T08:32:42","date_gmt":"2023-02-08T08:32:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/walkurban.eu\/?p=933"},"modified":"2023-02-13T15:46:13","modified_gmt":"2023-02-13T15:46:13","slug":"cfp-special-session-at-rgs-2023","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/walkurban.eu\/?p=933","title":{"rendered":"CfP Special Session at RGS 2023"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Call for Abstracts for a special session at the RGS 2023 (30<sup>th<\/sup> August-1<sup>st<\/sup> September, online):<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Walking in the city: walking experiences and walking behaviour in urban settings<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Given its benefits towards a sustainable society as well as to the health and well-being of individuals engaging in the activity \u2013 walking is emerging as a mode of increased importance in research and planning, in particular in urban or suburban areas. Having said that \u2013 our understanding of the walking experiences and walking behaviour of different people and\/or various urban settings is still limited. Partly since walking has conventionally been left out in the planning and research discourse in favour for other travel modes \u2013 such as driving, cycling or public transport.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Addressing this gap, we invite scholars from diverse disciplines to contribute to our online session on \u201cWalking in the city\u201d. We especially aim for papers contributing to knowledge and discussions on people\u00b4s walking experiences and walking behaviour in diverse urban settings, including (but not limited to) the following themes:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Walking behaviour and experiences in different urban settings<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Different population groups and their behaviour<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Different purposes and destinations for walking<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Different districts \/ neighbourhoods (urban and semi-urban areas)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Walking in a changing climate<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>How do cities deal with increasing heat stress in the city \u2013 what is the effect on walking?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>How do societal changes and increasing mobility\/energy costs influence walking?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Is walking for everyone?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Just and inclusive approaches to support and foster walking in the city \u2013 for what purposes, in what times of the day\/night, for whom (vulnerable groups, gender, social aspects)?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Get people heard? Lifting the citizens voices and views on walking<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>How far is \u201cwalkable\u201d (15 min city, critical views)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Instructions for prospective authors\/presenters:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you are interested in participating in our online session \u2013 please send an abstract (maximum 250 words) and full contact details of all presenters (name, institution, email) to both session organisers by the 10<sup>th<\/sup> of March 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Depending on the response we receive, we have the possibility to request one or two timeslots at the RGS 2023. Please note that all contributors need to register for the conference prior to the Early bird deadline (9<sup>th<\/sup> of June 2023). We will send out specific information to all presenters in due course.
